Bad Air Day

Bad Air Day for iOS | Apple/Mac, iPhone/iPod, Reviews, Strategy

Some games have deep meanings that conjure strong emotional responses. They are heavy, somber games. Luckily, I’m not talking about one of those games today. I’m here to tell you about Bad Air Day, a game all about farting, provided to me by GameHouse!

Not a bad time-sink. The character design is cute, and while I enjoyed playing it a few times, I probably won’t come back it often.

Source Studio quotes my ProtoGalaxy review on their site.

"It’s a lot of fun! With ProtoGalaxy, what appears
to be a small title actually has quite a bit of depth." – Game Boyz,
8/10

It’s not like I said anything particularly great there actually, but I
did really enjoy the game. It’s always kind of exciting to get quoted.

Gemini Rue

Independent publisher Wadjet Eye Games and developer Joshua Nuernberger are announcing a partnership to commercially release Gemini Rue for PC. This retro-style adventure game, which combines creative point and click gameplay with a gripping sci-fi / noir narrative, was an Independent Game Festival Student Showcase winner in 2010. Gemini Rue will release February 24 from http://www.geminirue.com, with preorders starting today.

I think this game looks really fantastic! Usually I’m hesitant to review games for platforms other than the iOS because they’re bigger time sinks, but I had to make an exception. It looks absolutely stunning, and the plot looks engaging as well. Review copies are available in early February, and I’m on the list. Here’s hoping they have enough promotional copies!

MaXplosion for iOS

MaXplosion for iOS | iPhone/iPod, Reviews, Platformer

Good news for platformer fans with an iPhone or iPod Touch! Capcom Mobile recently released MaXplosion. Rather than jumping, in MaXplosion you spend your time exploding. Propel yourself and damage your enemies. The game is easy to pick up and play for short periods of time, and while the level design isn’t amazing, the game is fun and has a cool, action cartoon feel.

Best iOS Games of 2010

Best iOS Games of 2010 | Reviews, Fighting, Platformer, Puzzle, Simulation, Strategy

I played a lot of great iOS games in 2010, but now that we’re in 2011, it’s time to think back at what the best iOS games of the year were. It’s very difficult to choose; I played 36 iOS games for Game Boyz alone, and that doesn’t count games I played just for myself. Somehow I managed to narrow it down to five games. In no particular order, here they are!

Street Fighter IV, RollOut, Game Dev Story, Plants vs. Zombies, Chuck’s Challenge!

DiscoTech for the iOS

DiscoTech for iOS | iPhone/iPod, Reviews, Action Games

There really isn’t much more I should have to say about DiscoTech. D7 Studios took a simple concept and didn’t add superfluous frills or mechanics. What they did do was took care to polish the game, created an intuitive, precise control scheme, and designed interesting levels with obvious care and thought. DiscoTech is a fun tilt-based labyrinth game that really outshines its competition. Boogie on down to the App Store to pick it up for $0.99!

While I didn’t put it in the official review, DiscoTech also blows the iOS version of Super Monkey Ball out of the water.

ProtoGalaxy for Steam

ProtoGalaxy for PC | PC Games, Reviews, Action Games, Shooter, Strategy

With ProtoGalaxy, what appears to be a small title actually has quite a bit of depth. Fans of arcade shooters will be very pleased. It has lots of action but is definitely not mindless due to its complex levels and upgrade system. Ship customization obviously adds a lot of strategy, and as I said, the graphics, music, and sound are all good. Four-player co-op adds a lot of value to me, as I absolutely love local co-op. In addition, the level editor adds more content for people who want to jump deeper into the mechanics of the game if they’re willing to put in the time. ProtoGalaxy is a great a game and is currently $4.99 on Steam, 50% off its normal $9.99 price tag!

I spend my Christmas reviewing.

Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash for iOS

Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash for iOS | iPhone/iPod, Reviews, Platformer

Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash (get it? MAD?), by XMG Studio, has made its way to the iPhone! …[It] is a well made game that both fans and newcomers will enjoy. Fans of the cartoon will especially enjoy reliving it through the colorful art and fun music and sound. It’s simple to play, which makes it easy to pick up quickly. You can enjoy it in a few short minutes or play it longer if you have the time. It’s perfect for when you have a few free minutes and you want something to do that can be accomplished in that time but is still fun!

Dead Rising Mobile for iOS

Dead Rising Mobile for iOS | iPhone/iPod, Reviews, 3rd Person: Action

Dead Rising Mobile is a fun snippet of the experience of Dead Rising. Unfortunately, it’s not the same masterpiece as its console brethren. It’s definitely more of an arcade game that asks, ‘how long can you last while killing zombies and doing quests to gain power’ rather than asking you to explore and solve the mystery of what’s happening. While I was hoping for a bit more, I enjoyed playing it!

MCAT Physics Connect for iOS

MCAT Physics Connect for iOS | iPhone/iPod, Reviews, Educational

MCAT Physics Connect by Watermelon Express is a new test preparation application for the iOS. Now I know test prep isn’t something we usually cover, but hear me out because it’s fun and could be useful! It teaches you physics, provides sample questions, and shows you where you need to improve. Most importantly (for us), it’s fun at the same time.
