It’s been a while since I’ve posted last.
We were told we could move in Monday the 26th at 8 am, but they later changed that to 3 pm. When we showed up to move in, they said we could put our stuff on the patio, but they still had to shampoo the carpet. They finished that by 5 and said it would take 4 hours to dry. It took a lot longer. I ended up sleeping on the tile floor in the kitchen on top of some cushions. Over the next few days things were still getting set up. They apparently still had some electrical things to do as well as give us our appliances. By Wednesday most of the stuff was fine though. I had most of my stuff with me but no furniture. For the first few days I slept on Will’s couch. By mid/end week, I had my loft bed and new matress. Patrick and Colin did most of the building.
Will’s dad was here a lot working on things. He helped a lot. On his last night, he took Will, Patrick, Colin, and me out to Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. It was amazing. We weren’t expecting it so we were completely underdressed too. The food was great though. After dinner, Will’s dad asks us all to guess how much the bill came to. I guessed $340. Then he pulls out a $100 bill and says that whoever was closest wins it. The bill was $339.95, and he gave me $100. Pretty awesome dinner.
On Friday our couch was delivered. It’s a black leather L-shaped sofa that’s full sized on each arm of the L. Each end is a recliner, but they brought us two left ends and have yet to come bring us the right piece. But it’s really comfortable. That day Dad and James came down. The three of us met gem at the Spectrum to see Serenity. There were a few things I didn’t like about the movie, but all in all, it was excellent. I really hope Firefly lives on. Dad and James really enjoyed it as well, and although she wasn’t as impressed, gem had fun too. After the movie, Dad left, and gem, James, and I had dinner at CPK before leaving James at Mom’s place.
Over the weekend we set up our apartment more. By this time we had all of our appliances – barbecue, George Foreman Grill, blender, coffee/expresso machine, toaster, microwave, etc. The big tv I got from my mom was all set up and on a stand in the living room. Patrick and I both bought a floor lamp for our room. In the living room there’s one normal floor lamp and one that’s the asian paper-box-around-some-lights thing. But we bought the wrong bulbs. I bought a corner desk to go under my loft bed and a matching drawer unit that sits next to the desk and is the same height. I wanted to get another desk too, but Ikea was out of them so I’ll have to go back. That’ll give me a lot of desk space. I also bought a tall slim bookcase to put next to my bed. It doesn’t hold much, but I can put my tv on top to use while I’m in bed. I also bought a normal size bookcase for, well, books. It’s nice to finally have all my books put away rather than in a box or shoved haphazardly on a shelf.
Today are dining room table came. It’s a gorgeous metal frame with glass top. Rather than have inserts that make the table top bigger, on two of the sides you can reach under and slide out and pull up to lock into place a glass piece. This makes the table really huge if pulled out on both sides. It came with six black chairs and a matching glass top credenza. Will bought a cocktail table, but it’s not ready to be picked up yet.
I’ve seen gem a lot obviously. I have three of my four classes with her. I’ve seen her roommates a little but not much. And obviously (again), I’ve seen a lot of Will and Patrick. Colin’s been over a lot too. Andy I see most days at school which is cool. I’ve seen Jimmy, Chris, and Vince a little, and Kevin and D’Ann once or twice. Jon also lives not-so-far-away in Stanford court although I really haven’t seen too much of him or Gabby. I noticed that Jasmine was in my class today and talked to her a little. She’s in Dartmouth too so I’d like to go visit sometime soon. Judy called me today as well for computer help (her problem’s fixed now), and we’re gonna try to meet up tomorrow. I’ve yet to get a hold of Toni, which sucks. I also haven’t met up with Russ yet. Hopefully soon.
Classes are alright. CSE 23 is going smoothly. We have a project due a week from today, and I’m not done of course. But I think it’ll go fine. CSE 31L is a breeze but annoying. The lecture’s useless. The lab is crap because it’s 8-11 two days a week, and I don’t think it’s that important. The TA hardly helps, but we have to have her see our project before we turn it in or do the lab write-up. However, she didn’t mark anything down so maybe I can stop going. We use a language called VHDL to simulate hardware. It’s pretty cool I guess. Classics 45A, a mythology class, is interesting but has a lot of reading. I’m pretty far behind already. Music 78A, history of jazz, is also pretty cool. I have no idea how it’ll go though. Should be fun regardless.
gem is in all the same classes as me except she’s in 31 rather than 31L. However, due to an error people who hasn’t taken 31 were allowed into 31L. Only a handful of students in my 31L class had actually taken 31 so the teacher’s making in easier. Because of this, gemma might join my class there as well. But as of now, she has schedule conflicts.
Okay, that’s all.

Irvine
I came down here on Monday with gem. I stayed with her through Thursday. Thursday night and Friday night I stayed with Andy, Vince, Chris, and Jimmy. It’s been pretty chill here. Classes went alright on Friday. gem, with help from others, is making curry for us now. Can’t wait to eat!
Vegas
So I went to Vegas last week to visit my grandparents. My aunt and uncle took me with them. It was a lot of fun. I hadn’t been out there in a couple years so it was nice to visit. My grandmother took me around the strip. We also went to listen to a Beatles tribute band called the Fab. My grandfather cooked tons of delicous food. I’m sure I gained a lot of weight. Seeing my cousins was great too. Mitchell’s a great kid, and Haley’s adorable. I also got to see my great-grandmother (Baby Nana as I call her). All in all, a fun trip!
Hollywood with gem, Running into Camille
On Friday gem and I took the metro down to Hollywood. We didn’t have a reason for going other than to go. There sure are a lot of costume stores and lingerie stores. Kind of weird. But there were a lot of regular clothing stores too. gem did some shopping while I watched, gave opinions, etc. It was pretty fun. We kept falling asleep on the ride back to Wardlow station even though it wasn’t yet night. After getting back, we went to Subway for something to eat.
Yesterday we went to a yarn store. And that about sums up yesterday actually, lol. Quite exciting. Speaking of yarn, gemma did ask me to order some yarn online for her, which came today. She’s going to pick it up later tonight. She just called and she’s going to go do yoga with Carrie right now.
Today I went to the ATM with my dad because I had to put money into a checking account so my check doesn’t bounce, heh. Afterwards we went to the Taco Bell in Bixby Knolls near by middle school, Hughes. And I ran into Camille =D She works there. Herbert mentioned that she worked at one, but I hadn’t thought of which one. She was very cheerful, just like I remember her, and it was nice to catch up, even if it was just for a couple minutes.
Irvine Improv
Yesterday gem and I went to see Elon Gold at the Irvine Improv. It was a lot of fun. There were two other comics too, but I can’t remember their names. There was quite a bit of interaction with (or at least making fun of) the crowd. One woman, nicknamed Wingspan for stretching out her arms repeatedly, was made fun of throughout the whole night. Another guy was thrown out after arguing with the comedian and telling him he wasn’t funny. I thought he was pretty funny. The people we shared our table with were nice too. gem and I sat right in the front, with our table against the stage (she had her feet on the stage actually). It was awesome.
Of course, while we were there we also just hung out at the Spectrum for a while. We had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. She had been wanting to for a while, and I have to say, it was very tasty. We drove around a bit in the area to find some nice spots to hang out, and we slept at her place in Irvine. It was great to spend some time with her. Today we played Gunbound most of the day. I’m happy her computer can handle it, and she really enjoys it! Then on the way home we stopped at Barnes and Noble and a restaurant specializing in bread. We split some tomato soup. Very tasty! I had a great couple days with gem. Spending so much time with her was amazing. It was like a weekend get-away during the week =D
10 Months
10th monthiversary! Yay! I’ll talk more later!
gem, Disneyland
gemma came over on Thursday and hung out at my house for a bit. Afterwards we went to El Camino and watched Fantasia 2000 and The Animatrix. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but it was a great day. I hadn’t seen gemma in what felt like forever (Friday). The next day, Friday, we went to a mall in Cerritos. She shopped for a little bit before we went for Philipino food. I tried something that was basically cow stomach lining and vegetable in peanut sauce. It wasn’t very good. I actually think it was the sauce that was the worst part. I also tried a soup that was basically pig blood. I had to eat a lot of rice with each bite at first, but the soup grew on me and was actually pretty good. On Saturday gem came over to my house where we went jogging for a while. Then we picked up Mayra and her little sister and went to the Cerritos mall again. There was much more shopping there that day.
On Sunday, gem, Mayra, Mayra’s blindish date Dennis, and I went to Disneyland. Mayra and Dennis knew eachother online but had never met. I had a great time. Dennis was 24, really quiet, very shy, stayed away from the group, and thought we were racist. Haha! I posted some photographs up so check them out. Space Mountain was pretty cool. It’s probably one of my favorite rides now, but I still don’t think it was like “OMG THEY REOPENED IT AND IT’S AMAZING YAY *ORGASM*”. But, yeah, it was pretty cool. gem packed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for us in a cute, decorated, paper bag, and they were tasty. However, we also shared a turkey leg. Very good! We sat down to eat, and afterwards gem and I went out on our own for a while, leaving behind Mayra and Dennis. It was fun to spend a little alone time. Later we all went to the Haunted Mansion where gem and I got to catch in a mirror Dennis stealing a kiss from Mayra and Mayra screaming. Yay! Very funny. Not for Mayra. Hahaha! And at the end of the day, gemma hit her head and bled a lot. A lot of nice people, staff and visitors, helped out. And she was fine! Although I worried a shit load and called her all throughout the night.
Despite the ending, it was a wonderful day. And after gem got cleaned up she stayed very cheerful. God, I love her! Disneyland was so much fun with her. And Thursday’s our 10th monthiversary.
Now, if Herbert ever gets here (he was supposed to be here 52 minutes ago), I’ll be off to Disneyland again.
Weeding
This was a lot more than I expected. My mom said professionals would weed the front and back yards for $150 or so. She offered me the money if I wanted to do it. Now, I’m gonna need the money to pay bills and what not. Plus, when I get my apartment, I’m probably going to need to borrow money until financial aid comes in.
My mom called me on the 24th while I was at William’s party to talk to me about it. Monday I went out with gem, and Monday night I went to my mom’s house. Tuesday I started working. I usually get up at 6am, work until 10:30 or 11, shower, eat, nap, start working at 5:30 or 6pm again, work until 8 or 8:30, shower, eat dinner, sleep. I know it sounds like I sleep early, but sleep also means get in bed and call gem.
Tuesday Christine came over during my break (it gets so hot during that time), and we went to the mall. It was fun. Wednesday she came over again during my break and brought me Taco Bell. We watched some Chapelle’s Show too. Thursday I worked in the morning but not in the evening. Instead, I went home. Friday I went out with gem (see previous post), which was obviously great. My mom picked me up Saturday so I worked that evening. While I was attempting to make this job end, I hit the sprinkler system. Now water shoots out everywhere! Joy! Well, only when the sprinklers are on.
Monday I worked most of the day and napped in the middle. I really wanted to get everything over with and decided to cancel on Disneyland. Tuesday I continued working. My mom wanted me to go out to dinner with her and some friends so I didn’t have to work in the evening. As it turns out, her friends had to pull out so we didn’t go. Wednesday was my last day there. I worked in the morning until noon, finishing the areas I had started but not actually even finishing the front yard. She did pay me $100 for what I had done though, not to mention the benefits.
And by benefits, I mean the other money she did spend on me. At one I had an appointment to get my hair cut. I have my pony tail in a plastic bag. Kind of weird. I’m still not used to my new reflection. Regardless of hair, I still look like me though. Too bad, lol. Afterwards we went to the mall where she bought me a couple pairs of jeans, new shoes, and a headset for my cell phone.
On the way home that night we stopped at my aunt’s house to pick up James. It was nice seeing her and her kids again. Everything seems go for Vegas. I’m going to go with my aunt on the 30th and come back around the 5th or so. And that’s that.
Santa Monica with gemma
Yesterday gemma and I went to Santa Monica. It took us a while to get there, especially since we got a little lost. I hadn’t seen it her since Monday (it was Friday), which doesn’t sound so long but felt sadljfnso;fnwefoljndefwOMGz long. We went to Pacific Park, the little amusement park thing, but we didn’t go on any rides. We walked around for a while before renting a couple bikes. gem didn’t like them as much as the others we’ve rented because they were multispeed, but it was a lot of fun. She slammed on her brakes once which caused me to slam on my brakes… but no crashes!
After returning the bikes, we hung out at Pacific Park some more. It seems like we’re always pointing out photobooths but never get around to taking any. Well, she was looking for the kind that give you the photos in the strip, and we found a booth this time. The first photo was taken without gemma noticing, and the second had me all bug-eyed and ugly (yes Christine, uglier than usual). The last two were good though!
Then it was time for air hockey. She kicked my ass twice in a row. She’s good! And… I’m not so good. However, she accidently threw (let go? released? I’m not actually sure what happened) her paddle, and it hit a guy. The guy was two tables away from us. Everybody was laughing except me because I was confused and didn’t know what was going on. Good times though!
And then we went home.
PS. gem listens to KROQ a lot but doesn’t like the flashback at noon thing. I liked it most of all, lol. They played Oingo Boingo! That’s good stuff.
Anyways, I love spending time with her.
