Mike

I forgot to mention that it was Mike’s mom’s birthday yesterday. Mike didn’t realize this until his grandmother called him around 7:30 or 8:00. He didn’t have time to buy her a gift.

MT-Medic

Despite not needing to, I recently clicked the “Forgot your password?” link on the Movable Type login page. I wanted to see what it would do to restore my password. It attempted to e-mail me, but because I hadn’t set up MT to use e-mail, it failed. But my password was already changed. At this point I couldn’t get back into MT, but I found a very nice tool. It’s called MT-Medic and can be found here. I’ve also mirrored the tool on WebPageless here. Assuming you’re able to put one file on your web server, this tool will allow you to fix many MT errors and allowed me to reset my password.

SpaceShipOne

SpaceShipOne, the first private spaceship, successfully reached space yesterday. There were many errors, and back-up systems had to be used. Despite bad trajectory, the ship made it. The 63-year-old pilot, Mike Melvill, is the first to receive commercial astronaut wings from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Monotheism and Jihad Behead S. Korean. S. Maintains Its Stance

The terrorist group known as Monotheism and Jihad beheaded Kim Sun-il, a South Korean hostage. He worked for a company providing supplies to Americans. Monotheism and Jihad demanded that Korea pulls out, saying that “[Korea’s] army has not come here for the sake of Iraqis, but for cursed America.” They probably have a point there though. The ROK will still send 3,000 troops in August.

Gable House Get-Together

I’m planning to have another Gable House Get-Together sometime next week. For those who didn’t go to the first get-together, we pretty much played 2 games there and went to dinner afterwards, although it didn’t happen in that order last time. It’s most likely going to happen next Tuesday, or not. Other possibilities are Friday and Saturday. As soon as we have enough people to do something, we’re going to do it, and anyone showing up late can catch up with us. Please call me when you’re near (5-15 minutes before coming) to determine exactly where we are since plans do change.
Anyways, if you’re interested on coming to the next get-together, IM me for details.

Aishiteru ze Baby 11

No spoilers.
Kippei fixes his problems with Yuzuyu-chan and Kokoro. The resolution with Kokoro might suck a little, but everything’s for the best. This episode resolves the drama that’s been happening for the last few episodes. I suppose there’ll be a new conflict next week. If not, they’ll have to revolve an old on. We’ll see next Sunday!

Cowboy Bebop The Movie

Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door is a great movie for Cowboy Bebop fans and can be used to introduce you to the series as well. It takes place after all the characters have come together, and the plot is completely self-contained. Both the animation and the music in the movie, just as in the series, is some of the best I’ve ever seen/heard. The introduction style looks like something that would be done in a live action movie, and parts of the movie do look real. The music is performed by The Seatbelts. I think the music of Cowboy Bebop is one of the major aspects that make Cowboy Bebop so great.
The plot of Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door is a little looser than most of the series. I find myself wondering if what they do in an attempt to vaccinate the population of Mars would really work and if Faye could legally get away with taking over the weather control station as a terrorist. Then again, things like that happen all the time in the series, too. Collecting bounties is kind of pointless when you have to pay so much for damages, eh? It’s a wonderful movie though, and I really recommend seeing it.

Mononoke Hime

I just got around to seeing this. It was a great movie, and I’m really impressed with Miyazaki. Everything I’ve seen by him has been superb. Mononoke Hime is about the interaction between humans and nature. The humans are destroying the forest and killing animals in their search for iron, which angers the gods, giant, powerful animals. When a being gets corrupted by hatred, it turns into a demon. After one young boy slays a demon, he too begins to turn into one and must travel far in an attempt to stop it.
The movie had a great plot, animation, and sound. I also thought that the characters were excellent. There was no “bad” guy, just a lot of beings doing what they thought was best for them. Mononoke Hime contains many interesting creatures as well, just as many other works by this director do.

Herbert Birthday Bash 2004!!!!11!1!11!!!eleven!!

Yesterday, Jaysen gave me a ride to the mall. No one was there yet so we just wandered around the mall and checked out EB. At Alladin’s Castle, we saw that white kid with the high socks that seemed to be a punk wannabe from Gable House. We ran away. Herbert, Hanah, and William showed up so we all wandered around. David, Mike, and Bradley (eh? maybe?) showed up and talked us into going to Fuddrucker’s. It was tasty. There was a one hundred word essay contest on the topic of “why your father is the greatest in the world” or something like that. I wrote about how the Supreme Commander is like a father to me, how much I loves him, and how he’s not crazy anymore now that he got back together with the hippie. Right? Right.

Life, The Universe and Everything

Harold should be off of our property within a week or two. I think he’ll put up a fight though. He’s trying to go into Sober Living (or something) so the story goes. Jamie (is that spelled right? and not my brother) goes to prison in a few days, but he’s done a lot of work on the wall so far. He’s going to start working on the roof as well. Homer’s been around, but I’m not sure what’s up with him. I think he’ll be leaving soon. He seems to group himself with Harold when they talk to me, but they don’t really get along anyways. Paco hasn’t been here in a few weeks. His daughter called the other day looking for him. She called him a different name, but I figured out who she wanted. When I told her that he hasn’t been here in a while and that I didn’t know when he was coming back, she said that that sounded just like him. Jamie’s mom would like to move into the back. Apparently, she’s had a steady job for years, has a car, and is pretty quiet. Hopefully, that’ll work out.
The wall has been rebuilt and is almost done being painted. The paint really doesn’t matter though. No one has begun work on the roof yet. Patty, Harold’s on-and-off girl friend, is going to work on the roof too. She’s done other work around here such as electrical and plumbing, and I know she’ll work if she says she will and will do a good job. However, that’s only if Harold’s still around and only if Harold and her are on good terms.
When my he got the license to do roof work, my dad had to talk to a city official. Apparently, the man was Greek, and they were friendly to each other. He said that the phone call about the roof was unofficial and that we have thirty days to fix the roof from the date we receive the letter saying we need to do so. We still haven’t received the letter. We’re unsure as to whether this is a normal delay or if the official is giving us time. I can’t make judgement because I wasn’t there to see if the man was actually treating my dad different than he treats anyone else.
We received the property tax bill yesterday. It was only the current one for the year, not the bill for the whole five years. And it says that if you don’t pay for five years, the state may take the house but not necessarily. Still, if he pays this one year, the unpaid bill will only be at four years, and we’ll be safe. I don’t know what he thinks will change in the future. He says that five years worth of the taxes will be about five thousand dollars. This year’s bill was five hundred and something. I wonder if his five year figure is incorrect or if there’s a lot of interest. In any case, he says he only has about two thousand free on credit and that he already has about six thousand, I think, on credit cards. I guess that would make his credit limit about eight thousand dollars, which is pretty low. I guess it’s high compared to the credit limits of the people he associates with.
