It’s a Wonderful Life – CAMS Drama

I enjoyed the play a lot, but I definitely think I enjoy them more when I know the people in them. There were some errors here and there, and I had to ask for clarification because I hadn’t seen the movie, but nothing that detracted from the play too much. Thomas Reichert played George Bailey, and he did fairly well. Jonah Harris did a great job as Clarence Odbody. It seems fitting for him to be an angel. Henrietta Potter was played by Erin Schumacher, who did wonderfully. She was good at staying in character when the play got off track and was very convincing as the role. I’m glad I came back to see another play.

Karsh Kale & Realize and Mercan Dede

Man, I am so tired. This is going to be difficult, but here goes:
Today, Dev came over around 3:00, and we took the metro to Pershing square. We saw Karsh Kale & Realize, which Dev and his friends had heard of before, and Mercan Dede. Karsh Kale & Realize are an Indian electronic band, and Mercan Dede is a Turkish electronic band. The concert was at California Plaza, and we met Dev’s friends Nishant and Avish there. Dev brought a water bottle of 80 proof “water” with us. We accidently sat in the handicapped section, which had the best seats, and after we noticed, we didn’t want to give them up. We sat in the very front row ^^;;. There were a lot of non-handicapped people in the section though, including the person next to me. Both bands were great, but I liked Mercan Dede a lot more. They had a beautiful dancer in the front. She had a large skirt on over her pants and would spin. The skirt rose up and formed waves. It was quite pretty. There were also lights on the performers, on the water, and being projected on to the surrounding apartment buildings. The whole thing was really gorgeous.
At intermission, after Dev and I made it to the bathroom and used it, he went to look for his friends. I walked around just to see the area. I attempted to walk a straight line between the tiles but failed. Even looking behind me at Nishant and Avish was difficult and interesting. (I’m new to this.)
Nishant’s dad gave us a ride to the metro station, where we took the red line to 7th/Metro. Dev didn’t even remember changing and kept asking me when we were gonna switch lines. There was a very friendly Native American guy who was probably drinking too. He held up his hand for no apparent reason, and we tried to high five each other. We missed the first time. There was also a cool guy in a multi-colored hat who was friendly. An asian dude in a red shirt kept laughing when Dev and I were talking. There was a white guy in a tie-dye shirt who started singing “It’s the End of the World” by REM for no reason that I could find. I had to hum along though. We finally found seats after a few stops, which was a relief. At one stop, I was trying to figure out where we were but couldn’t. The woman behind told me where we were. And the woman in front of us sort of held her head in a “oh God…” sort of where. When we reached Wardlow station, it was really difficult to get Dev awake. I stood up, and the guy in the multi-colored hat tipped his hat to me and smiled. On the way out, the asian dude in the red shirt laughed and wished me good luck. (Earlier, we had talked about making sure it didn’t look like we were drinking.) As we were crossing a street on the way back from Warlow Station, Dev decided he was going to wave to a car stopped at the light. Before he had a chance to, the driver waved at us. We waved back, and everybody laughed. Then, Dev kept waving back and giving thumbs up. The driver was very friendly ^^.
Also, there was a lot of fucking hot girls at the concert. A lot of them weren’t even what I’d usually consider attractive. I mean, I’d find them attractive, but I wouldn’t be attracted them. I also kept pointing them out to Dev loudly when they were in hearing range. I suppose I wasn’t myself.
And not to back-track again, but there was a small dancing area. The patrons dancing were all very amusing, lol. They weren’t very good at dancing.
I’m doing a lot better than Dev, who is now sleeping on my couch (I didn’t throw up), but man, it was an interesting night. There’s a first time for everything, I suppose. I’m used to going to bed around 6:00 or 7:00 AM, but I think I’ll goto sleep soon. I might watch Donnie Darko again because the movie’s already so fucked up, I might as well watch it like this.

Bill Maher with Hanah

Hanah invited me to see Real Time with Bill Maher with her and her mom. I had a great time. They picked me up around 4, and we proceeded to the studio. Hanah and I walked around Farmer’s Market (eh? yeah?) for a while before rushing back to the studio only to find that we didn’t need to, heh. The guests on the show were Michael Moore, former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell, Gov. Bill Owens of Colorado, Rep. David Dreir, Ralph Nader, and Andre 3000.
First, I want to say how much I dislike Andre 3000 of Outkast. He’s a fuckin’ dumb ass. Bill Maher kept trying to get him to seem… alive… but failed. “Uh… you think they were being racist towards Al Sharpton? Hm… yeah I guess that does sort of make me really mad a little maybe I guess.” Perhaps I’m paraphrasing. I’ve lost what little respect I had for Outkast. Only black person on the show… way to make your race look good, fool, lol. Bill Maher was pretty funny and generally witty although he didn’t know what to say to Governor Bill Owens once. He just sort of stammered, but it wasn’t due to the Gov. making a great point or anything of the sort. Dreir said something about Kerry flip-flopping when it came to issues and later said that he’d make Moore a republican. Moore asked if that would make him a flip-flopper, which was pretty damn funny at the time. He’s very intelligent and speaks well. Dreir also tried criticizing Fahrenheit 9/11 but when Moore asked him if he had seen it, he had to respond that he hadn’t. Both republicans, the congressman and governor, didn’t seem to make any good points in my opinion. That seems a little strange to me because I know I have some right-wing opinions, but I guess issues were never really brought up. It was more about people. I liked Campbell as well. It was funny and interesting when she talked about Canada’s system and its benefits. I also liked how she talked about how a good leader needs the reflexes to react and implied that Bush lacked them. Nader didn’t really make any good points, but Maher and Moore got down on their knees and begged him not to run, which was pretty funny. At the end, balloons were released and someone was cussing about how there weren’t enough balloons. Of course, there was a bit more cussing than there was at the convention.
I had never seen Real Time (no cable), but I really enjoyed it.
Afterwards, we went out to eat. I had a very tasty open-faced hot turkey sandwich, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cranberry sauce. We then went back to Hanah’s house where we watched the show on TV. After it aired and was recorded, we went back and watched in slow-motion to find us. We did. Good times.
Thanks for inviting me Hanah! Good show, good company.

David’s Graduation Party

There isn’t a lot to say about David’s graduation party. It was much smaller than his prom afterparty but still a lot of fun. I fooled around with the white guys in our usual style (computers). After the rest of the whites left, I spent the evening with the World Nation group, Herbert, Hanah (when the Supreme Commander and Commandress weren’t reading), and David. I also went for a walk and talked with Herbert. In the morning, I was promoted to major.
Also, I like how much David groups people. It’s kind of funny. I guess I’m a part of the white guys, the World Nation, and Motherly (the social group, not the band of course). His idea of the Motherly social group is very wide. Someone remind me to ask him where he places Linh-Nam, Christine, Antonio, William, Gemma, Jasmine, Roda, Nick… is there a loser group?

James’s Elementary School Promotion

It started at nine in the morning.
Crap.
It was in a field, and the seating was flat. Only the front row could see.
Crap.
The sound system was pretty bad, too. I could hardly hear most adults, which is pretty stupid on their part. The field was small enough that if they knew how to project, they should have been able to do without the sound system.
Some kids read reflective essays on their years at the school. A few of them were pretty good. The first one read sounded like something half of the people I know would write. At least I didn’t have to hear about anyone’s dream for a future of equality.
The music wasn’t live. It didn’t suck.

Alex’s Party / Achala’s Party

Alex’s Graduation Party

Dev and I arrived late, but at least we arrived. There was a tasty dinner of ribs, baked potatoes, and salad. It was fun just hanging out with a couple friends. Chris Gaydosh seemed interested in computers. I think that’s why he’s stared at me previously. Everytime he was doing that, I was with a computer. Some people went swimming while I watched and talked with Andrew. I enjoyed talking with him. He seems like a cool guy, and I like that he was pretty mellow.
After the party was basically over, Dev, Alex, and I hung out in Alex’s room. We listened to music and watched weird videos. I sang Stairway to Heaven, reversed it, and found that it did contain Satanic messages. However, when I flipped the real song, I did hear the Satanic verse. I fooled around with reversing some other songs, too. Fun stuff.
There, happy Dev?
Achala’s Birthday and Graduation Party

Achala’s party was a lot of fun. Alex and I bought Achala “Airplane” and “Catch Me If You Can.” The food was good, although when I ate too much of the spicy food, my eyes started to water. People that attended include Alex, David, Joseph, Herbert, Roda, Shirin, Susan, Bhavna, Arvin, Elieth, Kim, Jorge, other Alex, and other assorted people I can’t remember now. There was a lot of dancing, but I spent the evening outside talking to people, taking pictures, and having pictures taken of me. By the way, I’d like pictures of the evening. If you took any and would like to share, please let me know. It was a good night for hugs, too. Girls are soft and nice ^^
Happy birthday Achala!
That is all.

Graduation & Grad Nite

Graduation

I can’t believe high school is over. I’m so happy yet so sad. CAMS and specifically the Class of 2004 were great. I’ll miss everyone so much. I can’t think of a seque from the introduction into the actual review so I’ll just start. Orchestra was horrible. I think that if the CAMS orchestra is unable to perform well, which is the case, then a band should be hired or live music should not be used. Chorus wasn’t great but was okay. It was at least made up of seniors so even if they were horrible too, I’d be more okay with them performing. The speakers who weren’t CAMS students weren’t very good. They simply talked about themselves. Some high-ranking official from LBUSD gave a nice speech about how she was poor and black. I don’t care if she was poor and black but isn’t now. After everyone said the Pledge of Allegiance, Jasmine sang the national anthem. I know I’ve said it before, but wow. She has such a beautiful voice and sings amazingly. I wish I knew the words to be more descriptive. I’ve never had the national anthem stuck in my head before.
Shirin was the first CAMS student to give a speech. It sounded pretty weird because she was trying very hard to pronounce things correctly. Her speech centered around the Titans and unity within the class. I really get tired of hearing that crap. I love the Class of 2004, and I associate with the Class of 2004. However, I don’t associate with the word “titan.” It’s just some stupid mascot. I will never think of myself as a “titan,” only as a member of the Class of 2004.
Kimberly gave the second speech. I can’t remember specifics about it, but I remember that I enjoyed it. It seemed natural and didn’t piss me off. Not pissing me off is always a plus in my mind. Calvin gave the third speech. It was about black people, equality, etc. My family complained about it later. Moving on.
I didn’t like having to stop on stage. I didn’t know what to do. I just sort of stopped and looked confused. Shaking hands with Clark was interesting. It was a little awkward, and I pretended to be horrified by it later. It was nice to be able to shake her hand and graduate though.
CAMS didn’t make major fuck ups though. Good for us/them. When walking in, I didn’t notice my family until they called out to me after I walked past them. I did notice Cheryl’s dad right away though, who said hello to me, and I waved to him. Barnes was controlling stage traffic by telling people when to go. Alex said that he wants to meet with us later (tomorrow possibly) for lunch. Yay. When filing out, I saw Nick’s mom. I didn’t recognize her at first but said hello and apologized to her for not recognizing her later. I said hello to Hanah’s family and hugged Avi. Speaking of hugs, I like them. I also hugged Brooke, Cheryl, Gian, Gemma, and got assorted other hugs and kisses while keeping myself composed. I guess I only breakdown when I’m alone.
Grad Nite

It pissed me off that Disneyland had to frisk everyone, but I suppose it was for our own safety. I had a shitload of stuff on me as always, but everything went smoothly. The attractions there really do suck though. They’d be alright if the lines were much shorter. I spent most of the evening with Alex, Darnell, and Shaun. I would have preferred to spend with other people as well. I don’t mean to say I didn’t enjoy spending time with this group. I was just hoping that I’d get to spend time with people whom I didn’t think I’d see often this summer.
We spent a lot of time just listening to music. Disneyland’s sound system is fucking amazing. I love music. Sadly, most of the park was playing hip-hop. There are a few hip-hop songs I like but not many. Club Buzz had a live band playing named Toe Head. They were pretty good but rather pop-rockish. I’m not good with genres so I have difficulty describing this. I’d like to say that I didn’t like how “mainstream” they sounded, but it seems weird that I wouldn’t like something just for being mainstream. I guess it’s just that I don’t like what happens to be considered mainstream. Anyways, when the band wasn’t playing, they played trance/techno. Basically, they crippled good songs. I almost heard Sweet Child of Mine, but they “effed that shit up.” I slept a little during the techno.
The four of us went to the wrong parking lot and spent a lot of time there searching for the busses. We thought we were late when we arrived at the correct parking lot. Luckily for us, the busses were late as well. Unluckily for us, they ended up being an hour late. Everyone ended up sitting on the ground in the parking lot half asleep or in some cases, fully asleep. When we finally got back to CAMS, I didn’t really notice any emotional good-byes. Everyone was probably too tired.
And so end CAMS. <3 T_T

Drama Thing

I’m glad Hanah and Jasmine told me about this event, because it was very enjoyable. If they hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known about it. There might have been and probably were announcements, but I didn’t hear them. Anyways, I promised Hanah that I’d go easy, and Jasmine wanted to make sure I know that it was put together in a week. There were a few performances that weren’t very good, but a lot that were.
Erin’s keyboard playing wasn’t great, but it was nice, and I’m glad she performed. There was a “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” skit that did not show great skill but was very funny nonetheless. There were probably a lot more, but I’m having a hard time remembering the performances now. Three performances do stand out in my mind.
The first is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This was a musical, and I enjoyed it very much. Jasmine performed beautifully as always, although her character’s name escapes me. I actually wonder if she was hurt at all when thrown to the ground, because it looked very realistic. Mike Iinuma also performed very well. He’s one of the few drama members whom I don’t know but look forward to seeing perform. Plus, he’s pretty good-looking. You know I’m not the only straight guy to think so.
Jan Reside played a song on an acoustic guitar and sang. I can’t remember the song, and I guess there isn’t much to say about his performance. However, I thought he was really good.
The third performance was Ryan and Christina. I don’t know the name of what they were performing, but they sang about killing people, cooking the victims, and selling/eating them. It was a sort of morbid topic but very funny. They both did well.
And I know I said three stuck out, but I’m going to mention one more because, well, I just remembered it. The sunburned Hanah sang near the end. She’s a beautiful singer, and her singing to herself after the performance was even nice.
Sorry I didn’t use more names. That’s what happens when I’m not given a program! Thank you CAMS Drama for everything you’ve given to me. Good luck to its current senior members in college, and good luck current underclassmen (although I don’t think any of them are WebPageless readers) in future years of drama at CAMS.

Prom / David’s Party

I was really amazed to attend the CAMS prom. I hadn’t expected to make it to prom. I hadn’t expected to graduate. Only two weeks left.
Taking photos with friends took a lot longer than expected, but eventually Alex drove me to prom. It was a lot of fun, but I still don’t understand why it took so long to plan. Kamal and Russell were paid to take pictures together. I hadn’t intended to nor thought I’d dance, but Gemma asked me to once. I also danced with Herbert. Pictures will be up when I have more time. (You’d think I’d have a lot of time now.) Besides the pasta, the food wasn’t all that great. The pasta had some tasty sauce on it. At least, I thought the sauce was for the pasta. Perhaps it wasn’t. Tasty nevertheless.
The DJ would announce the Laker game scores periodically. I wasn’t interested, but I thought it was pretty cool that he did it. During “Who Let the Dogs Out,” Murat barked along with the song. That guy is amazing. His dancing was pretty cool too. Matthew Polichetti was there “dancing.” The guy can play DDR (doesn’t really look good doing it though), but his dancing was pretty scary. If anyone has pictures /video clips of him dancing, I’d like them.
Cheryl was prom queen, and David was prom king. I was/am very pleased with the results. I have pictures of that, too. I’ll post eventually.
David’s after party was pretty cool. Some stuff happened I rather not talk about, but it was very fun. VJ was pretty hilarious, and I met Joel, who’s cool. He told Brannon that he was pretty cool for a black guy, or something along those lines, lol. The homophobic tendencies of some people were funny, as was the guy who pissed on the dishwasher in the kitchen. I slept on David’s living room carpet for a few hours and went home around 11.
Yay.
