Catching Up

Funny how I only do these little summary posts now.
Quarter went okay. I got an A, B+, and B-. I’m feeling really burned out though. The second half of last quarter didn’t feel too great, and this one’s not feeling all that great either. I just wish there was some sort of break from it besides these little one week pieces of crap. My classes do seem interesting this quarter though.
A few weeks ago gem and I went to a science fiction convention in LA. I’m not sure if I ever mentioned it. I met Ray Park, who played Darth Maul among other cool characters, along with Daniel Logan, who played young Boba Fett. I took my photo with them and purchased an autographed picture of Park. Earlier that same day, gem and I found two all white bunnies on campus. There are a lot of bunnies around, but I’ve never seen white ones on campus. One had black spots, and one was completely white. gem and I were both able to pet one of them too! It was pretty awesome in all actuality. I should post pictures somewhere. Actually, look on Facebook in the next couple of days.
For my birthday, I went to TGIF with gem, Antonio, and Allison at midnight of my birthday so I could order drinks. Later that day, at a normal dinner time, I went out for a more secluded dinner. Then on Friday I went out with 12 guests to BJ’s. It was fun 🙂 Those pictures are up courtesy of Ratana. I haven’t posted my own yet. I guess I’m lazy. Plus, none of the photo hosts really please me. DeviantArt is for art… Facebook’s alright I guess… MySpace doesn’t really support large amounts of photos… flickr I just don’t get (I’d prefer albums, etc.). I guess Facebook’ll do.
Break was a welcome, er, break, from school. I hung out with Edward and my brother a bit, and then William came over. He stayed most of the week. I guess he hates Long Beach, which is understandable, lol. We watched TMNT, lots of Scrubs, beat Alien Hominid, and beat Metal Slug 6. I also beat episode 4 of Doom (the original) over break as well as Shadow of the Colossus. Shadow of the Colossus is an amazing game that I won’t really bother going into depth about here, but trust me, it’s amazing. I’m playing through a second time now, and I ordered Ico off of eBay earlier this week. William sold me his N64 too. Yay.
Disneyland. Went there too. It’s so much fun. I picked up an annual pass too, although I guess I don’t have that many people to go with anymore. Still, fun!
Also over break, William, my gf, and I built my LEGO Ultimate Collector’s Edition Imperial Star Destroyer. It’s truly awesome. Truly indeed. Takes up half of my dining room table now.
I ordered four tshirts off of Threadless today. They’re so awesome. One has 99 red balloons on it. How great is that? Reminds me of Alex =D
Next weekend I’m going on vacation to Vegas for three days. I’m looking forward to that.
I guess that’s a quick (maybe not so quick) summary of life.

Another Quarter

Time for another quarter! Break was fun, although it sure felt like it went by quickly. This quarter I’m taking Classics 160 – Classical Drama, CSE 70A – Network Analysis, CSE 132 – Organization of Digital Computers, and CSE 141 – Concepts of Programming Languages. I played a lot of video games over break, beating March of the Minis (DS), Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii), Trauma Center (DS), Point Blank (DS), Kirby Squeak Squad (DS), LEGO Star Wars 2 (PS2), and part of Battlefront (PC). However, I did a lot of other stuff too. I spent some time with friends and a lot of time with family. gem and I watched a lot of anime too. Mostly we watched Rozen Maiden and Rozen Maiden Traumend, but we also watched some of Midori no Hibi and Sexy Commando Gaiden: Sugoiyo!! Masaru-san. All in all, it was a fun break. My mom and stepdad gave me a new Toshiba Qosmio laptop. It’s a 1.8 GHz Pentium M, 1 GB RAM, 128 MB GeForce Go 6600 with TV tuner. I’m enjoying having the new laptop. Most of all though, I just enjoyed hanging around at home with gem. It was a nice, relaxing break.

Sorry – Life Recap

Once again I’ve gone a long time without posting on here. That’s probably because I don’t have readers anymore. Anyways, I’m happy with my Wii purchase. I’ve basically been playing Wii and DS in all my free time. School went well too. I got 2 As and an A- this quarter. Winter break’s been great. Sadly, it’s about half over. I watched The Holiday in theaters, Rozen Maiden, Rozen Maiden Traumend, and Midori no Hibi, and played a crap load of games. Nothing else to say, really. I’m hoping to get a 360 eventually. Sad life, no?

Busy Week

Classic 170 reading for Tuesday. CSE 161 homework due Wednesday. Classic reading for Thursday. Classic paper due Thursday. Lab to do on Thursday. CSE 161 midterm Friday. CSE 121 assignment due Friday. Edward’s party on Friday? Wii comes out Sunday. Classic reading for next Tuesday. CSE 121 quiz next Tuesday.
It’s been a busy week so far, and it’s only Tuesday. It feels much later. Someone from 7 Studios, I believe the founder, came to speak to us in CSE 121 today. It was interesting. He’s a programmer who has been in the gaming industry for about twenty years.
No news on the CLC Lead or CLC positions yet. Everyone’s thinking Adam though. Ali said that I’m one of the few people he would have liked to become lead. That’s pretty cool.
I want to play video games. The Wii should be pretty cool, I think. We shall see.

Life

It’s been a while since I posted last so I thought I’d write something. School’s going well. I’m taking CSE 121, Software Tools & Methodologies, CSE 161, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, and Classic 170, Women and Gender in Antiquity. All three are going well. I’m not worried about any of them, although the CSE courses still have a bit of work to them. Women and Gender in Antiquity isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, I enjoy it. To talk about women, they must be compared to men, so we’re still taught about both genders. I guess I thought it would be sexist/feminist, but it isn’t.
Work is going well too. Most of it consists of logging people in an Excel spreadsheet when they come in, marking paper print cards when they print, and writing in the “convo log” each shift. Shift’s are 1.5 – 4.5 hours long for me on the week days and 6 hours long on weekends. We also have to attend “programs” and run them, write for the CV Chronicles, etc. Not too bad. I play a lot of video games at work.
My second anniversary passed last month. Everything’s going just wonderfully in that department. Apartmentmates are all good. I hardly talk to Angel. Andrew and I talk and watch tv together sometime, but we don’t really hang out. Antonio and I hang out quite a bit now, which is good. I don’t really see other people much. I see Andy and Duncan every month or so. I haven’t seen Vincent, Jon, or Gabby in months. I see gemma’s roommates when I’m at her place. It’s fun there, and I really like her roommates. I also haven’t seen Herbert or Edward in months, and I’ve kind of been meaning to. Also I haven’t talked to anyone outside of UCI much. Alex slightly online, Christine slightly online, William slightly online. Dev came to visit earlier in fall.
That’s life woo

Gigabank Premier 80

I bought an “I/O Magic Gigabank Premier 80GB Portable Storage Drive” last night. It’s an 80 GB USB powered external hard disk that’s pocket sized. It was about $100, and I’ve read mixed reviews online. Some people seem to like it. One person said that after accessing it for 30 minutes, it gets write failures. Another person said he used it extensively everyday for 10 months, and it worked fine until that time at which point there was a loud noise and it stopped working completely. So far, it’s worked fine for me. I’m not sure if I should keep it or return it.

Getty Museum, The Stinking Rose

gem and I went to the Getty Museum yesterday. It was really fun. I’d never been to a real museum before, and I really liked it. The religious art bored me a little, which is ironic because that’s what most of it is. Still, there were a lot of amazing things. I also grew to like impressionist paintings a lot more. And the marble and bronze statues were really cool, probably my favorite. But the architecture itself is simply beautiful too. It was designed by Richard Meier and is outstanding. It feels like a palace or something.
After the museum, the two of us went to the Stinking Rose in Beverly Hills. It’s a restaurant specializing in garlic. Their motto is “We season our garlic with food.” We had amazing garlic spread with bread for an appetizer. Then I had the rabbit and gem had the chicken. And for dessert, we had garlic ice cream. The ice cream sounded a bit weird but ended up being really good. It didn’t really taste garlicy. It was just… spicy. Anyways, delicious!
