OC Fair 2015

OC Fair 2015

It’s that special time of the year where I eat terrible fried foods, watch bunnies, and look at all the cool competitions – the OC Fair! This weekend I went with gem and Antonio and had a great time!

OC Fair 2015

I definitely ate some bad food, including some fried Oreos. It’s not a fair without high calorie food. It was delicious, but my stomach did seem a tad confused at the terribly unhealthy food it received.

OC Fair 2015

I really enjoy looking at the collections every year.

OC Fair 2015

This ticket collection by John Dettle was one of my favorites (probably because I have my own). I assume they’re all tickets of events he attended himself, but I guess I don’t know for sure.

I also love looking at the other competitions – food, place settings, photography and other visual arts, crafts, it’s all so cool. There were a lot of cool photographs and paintings, giving me a lot of cool inspiration and ideas despite not being super artistic myself. The place settings are always interesting too. This surprised me the first year I saw them; I didn’t expect to care, but I do! There were lots of neat crafts too. I especially like the scrapbooking!

This rabbit was my favorite. He was super energetic, running in circles, climbing on his box, and jumping over his box. As soon as I had the idea to record him doing it, he stopped jumping over it. I was patient, and he eventually jumped over it for me!

We played a coin tossing game, and gem won a small prize! She intends to give it to Sumo. I was hoping to win a minion so I could send a video to my cousins of Sumo chomping it, but I wasn’t good enough to win one.

OC Fair 2015

I ended my fair trip by taking photos of flowers!

OC Night Market featuring food and the surprise Hug Deli

OC Night Market

The OC Night Market was last weekend, and I ate so much. But first I looked at these cute crocheted buddies!

OC Night Market

And these! Super awesome!

OC Night Market

Someone took a sweet boobsnap of Jon. Who was it? No one knows. But it wasn’t me. And actually I do know.OC Night Market

We started our eating adventure with garlic crab fries and a hot dog with nori and spam. We got in line for more deliciousness, but the line was taking forever. After ordering, Duncan and I decided to grab food somewhere else while Jonathan and gem waited for our food. On the way to our soup inside a roll things, Duncan took my picture in this Instagram prop. He also found $10 on the ground. I think he won.

OC Night Market

It took an hour, but we finally got our food – delicious pork belly in that gloriously soft and wonderful bread. Yeah, it took a while, but honestly, I’m also there to socialize and have fun, and that’s exactly what I did while waiting.

We also managed to eat sushi nachos from Samurai Burrito and a pork taco before getting to dessert (my favorite).

OC Night Market

First up for dessert was the Horchocolata Delight from Orion’s Cookery, consisting of chocolate mousse, horchata tapioca pudding, dulce de leche dipper, and cinnamon-sugar whipped cream. Yeah, it was delicious. I bet I could eat chocolate and tapioca puddings together to simulate it!

OC Night Market

After that, I had a Dirt Cup from Ice Cream Garden LA. The dirt cup is ice cream served in a plastic plant pot, covered in crushed Oreos to simulate dirt, and topped with a gummy worm and a sprig of mint. Amazingly cute and very delicious to boot! Not shown was my final dessert – some of Duncan’s funnel cake.

OC Night Market

gem decided to work in the Hug Deli, which was a really interesting booth. They have a menu of various hugs – the Warm + Fuzzy Hug, Bear Hug, Beverly Hills Air Kiss hug, Gangsta Hug, The Long Uncomfortable Hug, and the Group Hug, each priced at two compliments. If no one’s working the booth, you can walk inside, put on the apron, and start serving up hugs! You can find Mikey’s Hug Deli on Facebook!

OC Night Market

Rather than get a hug from gem, Duncan went to the other guy. At least he got a hug!OC Night Market Hug Deli

gem did really well. It was fun listening to people work up the courage to order a hug. One guy seemed a bit shy and wasn’t sure what compliments to give. His friends were talking about her smile.

“Tell her she has a nice smile.”

“She does have a really pretty smile!”

Pretty cool.

I was a little hesitant, but I had to get behind the counter too.OC Night Market Hug Deli

I only got one order. Thanks Duncan! I gave him a huge hug and swung him around a bit. His compliments were that he liked my chest hair and that I had nice glasses. You too, buddy!

Wakeboarding and visiting the OC Night Market

WakeboardingI went wakeboarding with my friends gem and Anela this weekend! We went to Silverwood Lake with my parents on their new boat. I’d been wakeboarding once a few weeks ago, but it was gem and Anela’s first time.

gem wakeboarding!

It’s hard to make us out in the photos, but that’s gem.

Anela wakeboarding!

And here’s Anela on the board.

Lunch time with Anela

Here’s a great action shot of Anela eating lunch with a bonus bunny ears from Pete.

Super gem?

This was cooler in person with the wind.Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is fun, but lying in the sun with your eyes closed is also fun.

Me and my mom

I’m going to guess someone said something funny right before this photo, because my mom looks really happy.Wakeboarding

Here I am wakeboarding!

Wakeboarding in action! Woohoo!

OC Night Market

After some delicious shrimp, potato, and corn soup at my parents’ house, we met Anela’s friend Daniel at the OC Night Market.

We ate, as gem would say, all the things!

Dumplings!

Multi-colored dumplings with multiple dips! Mmm!

So soft!

Delicious baco – soft!

Crunchy and tasty

Delicious baco – crunchy!

Cute sign!

We saw this super cute sign with a rad dino on it.

Macaroni and cheese

Fried macaroni and cheese with garlic aioli and sausage is tasty.

Eggporn?

We also tried what was being marketed as “eggporn.” The egg is cooked inside the jar in boiling water along with cornmeal, bacon, and green onion. I think. Anyways, it was pretty good.

Super delicious cookies

See these cookies? They’re amazing! There’s actually two kinds in that photo – habanero peanut butter and jelly and salted caramel apple oatmeal. They’re from the Velvet Rope Bake Shop. Check them out and get some cookies!

I also had some other things that I didn’t photograph (or the photos came out badly) including a fried squid, ice cream in a plant pot, fresh potato chips with Thai coconut curry toppings, some sort of corn dog, Brussels sprouts, spam musubi, and probably more about which I’m forgetting. Tasty! There was also a lot of cool art to see, a costume contest, some kids dancing, and live music. I heard a girl with a guitar do a great rendition of the Pokemon theme song, and I also some cosplayers throwing a pokeball at each other.

Oh, and then there was this wookie.

More photos here.

OC Fair!

Last weekend I went to the OC Fair for Alex and Devin’s birthdays, and it was fun as usual. I was meeting some friends there, and I just happened to see them standing around while I was in line for food. I went over and stood next to them nonchalantly, hoping they’d notice. Not only did they notice, but they were actually posing for a photo. I hadn’t realized, but that worked out well.

We wandered around a lot, but I always enjoy the farm animals and the photography best. Well, that and the food. And I ate so much food. I started with mushrooms stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon before moving on to taquitos.

Apple fries

Next there were apple fries – an apple cut up like fries, flash fried, and served with whipped cream and caramel sauce.

At that point we took a break from eating for a concert. We saw Common Sense, The Expendables, and The Dirty Heads. I’d never heard of any of them, but they were all entertaining. I didn’t really care for all the pot references or pot smoking in the crowds, but I was the outsider in their culture I suppose. I wrote down a few lyrics to look up songs later as well.

Mexican funnel cake (made of churros)

After the concert, I ate some delicious Mexican funnel cake, which is a funnel cake made out of churros. It’s so good and so bad at the same time. I also had a nice conversation with my friend Patti.

It was a terrific day.
